Rushy mead telecoms case study for phone system

“A new system to support the needs of a rapidly growing school” 

Rushey Mead Academy, a part of the Rushey Mead Educational Trust, in Leicester is a larger than average mixed comprehensive school in North Leicester providing an Ofsted Outstanding education for local 11 to 16 -year-old students.

Having been judged as Outstanding since 2007, the school has a long established national profile for excellence in teaching, leadership and student outcomes. This is reflected in the school’s impressive average attendance rate of 97%. This is a school that is very well supported by parents who are keen for their children to achieve highly and progress to higher and further education.

The school has also recently benefited from a £17m rebuild as part of the national Building Schools for the Future programme.

With approximately 1,700 students, it is anticipated that as a supported continuation of the success story, the school will in the next few years steadily grow to a base in excess of 2,000 students making it both one of the largest and one of the most successful secondary academies in the whole of the UK.

Pritesh Pancholi, Head of IT, contacted Evoke Telecom late last year and asked us to visit the school to advise regarding a now old and somewhat ailing telephone system. Were the school to continue its growth and provide the best possible services to parents and students, it was apparent that the old system would have to go.

Following months of both technical and commercial discussions (in what was an extremely competitive environment) Evoke Telecom and the Avaya IP Office telephone system were selected as the communications platform to support future needs at Rushey Mead.

Needless to say the removal of the old system and replacement with a new Avaya, which took place during the May half term holidays, went completely to plan.

Rushey Mead now have a latest technology communications platform from which they can extend both their on site and off site communications for very many years to come. And what is more their system was delivered on time and within budget, allowing the school to focus on and finance the most important thing of all – their students education, outcomes and futures.
